Project Description:
This visualization created by Walter Rafelsberger using Processing shows the conversations of about 1500 users from the microblogging service Twitter. The arcs basically link the locations of users who talk to each other. The geocoding was done filtering location info from the users profile pages and looking it up with Geonames.

Wow. Statistics and arts are getting closer these days, or so it seems.

It would be kind of interesting to see this same information but with the earth as a globe, and the lines going *through* it. That would give more of a sense of information moving around the planet, rather than over an abstract surface like a flat map. Dunno. Just a thought.

I second Trev -- curved lines skipping over the map are very popular, but it would be really cool to see straight lines running through a globe.

I think this construct is perfect, visualizing twitter over a sphere will be visually more complex and maybe not easy to understand as the map. Playing with transparency and other gimmicks. Anyway impressive. Thank you.

I guess a sphere would definitely look way cooler, however, using a plain map makes you see the surface as a whole, not just part of it.
