Project Description:
Maximilian Schich uses 230,000 records from the Getty Provenance Index databases to demonstrate the visualization of historical relationships, patterns, and trends. This diagram maps buyers, sellers, auctioneers, and experts active around the multiple locations, the labelled squares. Individuals are represented by circles. Selling activities are outlined by blue links, while grey edges correspond to brokering, and buying is orange. The total activity and number of transitions from 1801-20 is displayed in the proportional size of the shapes and weight of the lines.
