Project Description:
This map of real-time bus tracking data from the MBTA displays the speeds that buses traveled at as a data layer on top of a map of the city. Red indicates speeds of less than 10 miles, yellow for between 10 and 25 miles per hour, and blue for higher than that. The graphic, inspired by Eric Fischer's city transit maps, displays over two million data points. At a glance, you can see major congestion hubs where buses slow at busy intersections, while blue corridors correspond with rush hour expressway routes and surburban highways.
